Researchers found that yoga outperformed aerobic exercise at improving balance, flexibility, strength pain levels, helps seniors become more energetic, menopausal symptoms, daily energy level, and social occupation functioning among other health parameters. Yoga does more than calm you down and make you flexible.

I gained a lot of weight as a teen and into my twenties. I also suffered from severe menstrual cramps.  Thanks to a family member, whom  I visited in British Columbia.  She gave me a book called ABC of Yoga.  I highly recommend this book,  https://www.amazon.com/Kareen-Zebroff/e/B001KHKU4I?ref=dbs_p_pbk_r00_abau_000000.  After following the instructions and religiously doing the exercises, I began seeing the difference.  I became a well-adjusted healthy sociable young woman. Lost the weight and got rid of the cramps.  I can’t imagine what my life would have been without it.  ABC of Yoga by Kareen Zebroff  Benefits of Yoga is supported by Science

Yoga is helpful both mentally and physically. Some research is backed by science. Yoga is known for its ability to ease stress and promote relaxation.  I have certainly seen the effects of that.

There are studies that show yoga to improve heart-health and stress.  It reduces several risk factors for heart disease.  Patients with heart disease were closely followed looking at their change in lifestyle which included yoga training together with dietary modifications and stress management. They saw a decrease in total cholesterol and a 26% reduction in bad cholesterol.  Studies also show that it could help decrease symptoms in depression by influencing the production of stress hormones in the body.

Reduction of Chronic Pain

Research has proven that yoga aids in reducing chronic pain.  A study shows that people with carpal tunnel syndrome received a wrist splint or practice yoga for eight weeks.  At the end of the study,  yoga was found to be more effective in reducing pain and improving grip strength than wrist splinting.  More research is needed.  But putting yoga into your daily routine may be beneficial for those who suffer from chronic pain.

Helps Improve Breathing

Pranayama or yogic breathing is a practice in yoga that focuses on controlling the breath through breathing exercises and techniques.  Several studies have found that practicing yoga could help improve breathing.

Many studies have confirmed the mental and physical benefits of yoga.  Incorporating it into your routine can help enhance your health, increase strength, and flexibility, and reduce symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety.

Yoga and Your Immune System

Research from Norway states that yoga helps the immune system. Your immunity receives a boost before you’re done exercising. It helps us fight infection by boosting the immune system reducing stress and strengthen our body’s functions and systems. Yoga is one of the main tools for maintaining the health of our respiratory system.  Breathing technique and asana, (physical practice of yoga poses) help improve the mechanical efficiency of our lungs by conditioning the repertory tract that increases the elasticity and strength of the whole lung. This in turn helps to prevent infection.

This fact may seem unbelievable but some online dating sites found that singles who mention yoga in their profiles are the ones that have the most dates as they are quite attractive.  It helps you feel beautiful inside and out which helps bring out the inner beauty.  Try it and see for yourself.
